The Groove Odyssey
BassLicks: Gerald Mystille’s Groove Odyssey
BassLicks isn’t just a name—it’s me, Gerald Mystille, a bassist from France with funk running through my veins. Growing up, I was hooked on the deep, soulful sounds of jazz and funk, spending my teenage years glued to my bass, dreaming of grooves that could move the world. My journey took me from small gigs in France to the high seas, playing on cruise ships across the globe. Those years shaped me—every port brought new rhythms, every wave a new lick. When I docked back in France, I decided to share my love for bass with the world through Instagram as BassLicks. It’s where my hero’s journey began: not with a cape, but with a four-string and a passion to inspire.

Teaching the Groove, One Lick at a Time
I’ve turned my Instagram into a classroom for bassists everywhere. I’m a bass professor by trade, and I pour my heart into tutorials, licks, and lessons that make learning fun—whether you’re a beginner or a pro. From Instagram to YouTube and Patreon, I share everything: tabs, grooves, and courses that dig into jazz funk and beyond. My project’s hub, www.basslicksofficial.com, is where it all comes together, but my mission is global—to connect with players who feel the same pulse I do. It’s not just about technique; it’s about spreading the joy of bass, one funky note at a time.
From Covers to Creations
As BassLicks, I’m not just teaching—I’m creating. My singles, like my solo bass take on Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” turn pop into pure bass magic, while “So Sick” blends funk, jazz, and R&B into something smooth yet punchy. Right now, I’m diving into a new series of 90s hits reimagined in a jazz-funk universe—tracks that shaped a generation, rebuilt through groove, harmony, and bass-driven attitude. These songs aren’t just covers—they’re reinterpretations. I take music we all grew up with and bring it to life again through the bass.
These projects are me, Gérald Mystille, pushing what the bass can do—turning nostalgia into fresh sound, emotion into groove, and simple ideas into music that stays with you.

A New Chapter in Groove
From the heart of Paris, a new chapter begins. I made the choice to strip everything back and step into the unknown—not with a band, but with a single voice beside me. A duo. Pure. Honest. Exposed. In this format, the bass doesn’t just support—it speaks, breathes, leads. Every note becomes a pulse, every melody a story, every groove a journey. Together with a singer who matches this energy, we dive deep into a world where jazz-funk soul meets 90s nostalgia, reinvented through emotion and bold musicality. This project isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing truthfully. Just voice and bass. Nothing to hide behind. Everything to feel.
